{"id":341206,"date":"2020-02-14T10:03:47","date_gmt":"2020-02-14T18:03:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/?p=341206"},"modified":"2020-02-14T10:03:47","modified_gmt":"2020-02-14T18:03:47","slug":"ilir-latifi-trashes-judges-for-derrick-lewis-decision-they-robbed-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/ilir-latifi-trashes-judges-for-derrick-lewis-decision-they-robbed-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Ilir Latifi trashes judges for Derrick Lewis decision: &#8216;They robbed me&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At UFC 247, long-time UFC light heavyweight contender Ilir Latifi moved up to the heavyweight division to battle Derrick Lewis.<\/p>\n<p>While Latifi put up a good fight, he ultimately lost a decision to the hometown hero.<\/p>\n<p>He feels the judges got it wrong.<\/p>\n<p id=\"k9TfqZ\">\u201cTo be honest, I know I was on his home turf,\u201d Latifi told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2020\/2\/14\/21136759\/ilir-latifi-rips-judges-who-robbed-him-at-ufc-247-derrick-lewis-knows-he-lost-that-night\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MMA Fighting<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m coming from Sweden. I\u2019m coming to the U.S. I\u2019m coming to Houston. I\u2019m fighting the hometown pride, Derrick Lewis, who is one of the most favorite fighters in the UFC. I like him, too. He\u2019s funny as hell. He\u2019s humble. Nothing to take from that but I knew that I wasn\u2019t fighting just Derrick.<\/p>\n<p id=\"J4wXy5\">\u201cI was fighting the judges. I was fighting everybody in that arena that night. When I came there, I knew what it was. When the fight was over, you saw Derrick\u2019s face. He knew that he lost that fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Latifi continued, explaining why he believes he won the contest.<\/p>\n<p id=\"RTTy1V\">\u201cIf you see it this way, I controlled my opponent for 15 minutes,\u201d he said. \u201cI practically put him in the situation I wanted. I put him against the cage. I was grinding him and making him tired, taking out those power shots. I took him down.<\/p>\n<p id=\"pqJHyL\">\u201cHe threw some fancy knees and some kicks but I blocked everything and I saw everything. I felt very, very comfortable. He didn\u2019t catch me with nothing. It was maybe one punch but I saw everything. I blocked it and I took it with no problem. Not taking credit from Derrick, for being such a heavy guy, doing that stuff is impressive but I think I had total control of the fight. To be honest, I controlled a 270-pound opponent with ease. Most people can\u2019t control their puppy dog for like a minute. That\u2019s the truth. You maybe don\u2019t like it, but that\u2019s what I did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ilir Latifi isn&#8217;t the only fighter who felt like he was let down by the judges at UFC 247. Several other fighters, including Dominick Reyes, who lost to Jon Jones in the main event, felt the judges got their decisions wrong<\/p>\n<p>Latifi believes judges who err in this way should be punished.<\/p>\n<p id=\"c2qF6E\">\u201cI wasn\u2019t shocked that they robbed me,\u201d Latifi said. \u201cIt\u2019s so sad to see that they do that. Because this is the future of the sport. They\u2019re playing around with athletes, fighters\u2019 lives that put everything on the line. We sacrifice so much. We sacrifice our health. We leave our families. We do so much and to leave that in the hands of the judges or a commission that doesn\u2019t understand the sport or favors somebody, that\u2019s wrong. There should be consequences for that, too.<\/p>\n<p id=\"GF4zPM\">\u201cWhen fighters do wrong or they break the rules, they get punished for that. But when judges do wrong or rob people from their fights, there\u2019s no consequences for that. It\u2019s bad. It affects the fighters. People can say \u2018on to the next one, you did a great fight\u2019 but in a way f*ck that. I did everything for that fight,&#8221; Latifi added. &#8220;I came in as a big underdog. I think honestly the judges and everybody there didn\u2019t think I\u2019d last a minute and I came in and dominated him. It wasn\u2019t maybe the way they thought but that\u2019s the truth.<\/p>\n<p id=\"Wc3VG8\">\u201cBad judgment or judges who were sleeping at the fight or they just want to mess with the scores or favor him, they f*ck with people\u2019s paychecks,\u201d Latifi concluded. \u201cThat\u2019s 50 percent of what you get paid. It\u2019s not a game.
