Anyone who’s been following the sport of MMA from its early days knows exactly who David ‘Tank’ Abbott is.<\/p>\n
Known for his fan-friendly wild brawler style, Abbott fought in the UFC from 1995 to 2003 where he would go 8-10 taking on some of the sports best ranging from Frank Mir, Dan Severn, Frank Shamrock, Don Frye, Vitor Belfort, Pedro Rizzo, and Maurice Smith. Every single one of Abbott’s 25 career bouts has ended within the first round. With the exception of his last fight which took place in 2013 (a second-round TKO loss to Ruben Villareal).<\/p>\n
Now at 54-years old and seemingly been retired for the better part of the 2010s, Abbott noted that the hardest fight of his life actually came outside of the cage this past year.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy body finally caught up with all of my wild life,\u201d Abbott told The Hannibal TV<\/a>. \u201cBlew a gasket on my liver, but I got a nice transplant and everything is moving right along. It was not without complications though. I died five times on the operating table, had over six strokes, but I\u2019m still here. This is the hardest fight I\u2019ve ever had. I spent 107 days in the intensive care unit.\u201d<\/p>\n Now fully recovered, Abbott was seen this past weekend in Las Vegas at the professional wrestling event, AEW: Double or Nothing looking like a whole new person.<\/p>\n\n
