Daniel Cormier was waiting for a fight against WWE star and former UFC champion Brock Lesnar<\/a>, but that never came to fruition. Now, the current heavyweight champion will rematch Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 241 in August instead.<\/a><\/p>\n

Although “DC” beat Miocic by first-round knockout<\/a>, the 40-year-old wants to prove he is the superior fighter in the rematch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe upside to beating Stipe twice, I think it\u2019s just really hammering the point home that it was what it was supposed to be,\u201d Daniel Cormier said backstage at UFC 237 (h\/t MMA Junkie)<\/a>. \u201cWhen the fight ends in the way that it did the first time, there\u2019s room for people to say, \u2018Did he get lucky? Did this happen?\u2019 I think ultimately this isn\u2019t for me. I\u2019m doing this because he deserves a rematch. If I was like, \u2018I don\u2019t need to redo this again,\u2019 I could\u2019ve just gone with someone else. But I gave him my word that if Brock didn\u2019t fight, I\u2019d fight him. So that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since their last fight, Miocic hasn’t fought as he has been waiting for the rematch. Cormier, meanwhile, fought at UFC 230 where he submitted Derrick Lewis<\/a> to defend the heavyweight title.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Daniel Cormier will be fully healthy for this fight and expects that the result will be the same. With that, \u2018DC\u2019 still believes that Miocic will be better than ever for their rematch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think anything\u2019s going to be different with Miocic,\u201d Cormier said. \u201cI have to approach it similar. But, I do expect a better Stipe. I know how hard it\u2019ll be to beat him again, because I know how hard I prepared for the rematch with (Jon) Jones. Because I was just like him. I was in his position before, and I know how motivated I was to try to right that wrong. So I expect a tougher fight, but he\u2019s a boxer and a wrestler. That\u2019s exactly what he does, and I expect him to be better in his areas, but he\u2019ll be the same fighter, just a little more aggressive.\u201d<\/p>\n
