“The Immortal” Matt Brown has been in the MMA game for nearly 15 years, and the 38-year-old welterweight is showing few signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although Brown hasn’t had a fight since smashing Diego Sanchez back at Fight Night 120 in November of 2017, the veteran of 24 Octagon appearances has been staying busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brown already owns his gym, The Immortal Training Center, a fitness equipment business, and he is a devoted family man. His next foray will be in the world’s second most traded commodity \u2014 coffee beans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I’m working with a partner and were putting it together as we speak,” Brown told BJPENN.com of his new coffee endeavors. “Between all those things, having a family, I still have my fitness equipment business, I’m still training all the time. I’ve been staying pretty busy over here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It’s taking so long (the coffee company) because we’re making sure we’re getting solid sources. It’s gonna be single origin. The coffee business is a real crazy business, thats why I’m glad to have a good partner.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brown continued:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I’ll tell you what, there are some real shit holes out there. I think it’s the second largest commodity in the world so there’s a lot of really, really bad people involved in it. You just got to take your time, I’m fortunate to be blessed with the gift of patience.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To say his patience has been tested these last couple of years might be an understatement. As stated above, Brown’s last fight was some 15 months ago and that is his only fight in the last two and a half years. However, he may be back sooner than previously thought. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I’m hoping so,” Brown said when asked if he would return in 2019. “As we been talking I have a lot of things going on, a lot of things on my mind. A lot of personal things going down at the moment. So just gotta get through some hoops, but if there is one thing I’m good at it’s biting down on my mouthpiece and walking forward. But I absolutely can’t wait to get back in there.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Brown finally does get back to where he belongs, well, things may look a bit different. According to “The Immortal” the MMA landscape is not what it once was, it is far from the 2012 glory days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I think we have seen the golden age, we have seen the best the UFC and MMA is ever gonna have,” Brown said. “Back when we had PRIDE, and everybody just came over to the UFC from PRIDE, we just had every top fighter right in there.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I was up in the top 10 around then and getting to fight the studs of that day it just doesn’t get better. I think that was the day. I’m sure everybody in their era is gonna say the same thing but I think there was certainly something special about the last 10 years of MMA.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
