On a recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Oliver had a lengthy segment ahead of this Sunday’s WrestleMania 35 event that has gotten quite the buzz in the professional wrestling world. The host would go on to discuss and point out all the wrongs in said<\/g> sport… But more specifically with the WWE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of Oliver’s key points of mention was how there is a grey area for athletes in regards to whether or not they’re employees or independent contractors. Which happens to be a similar case within the UFC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The often vocal former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington shared his take on the segment and didn’t really find it applicable to his sport and organization that he competes for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI did see a little bit of it and I heard little clips of it, but you can\u2019t even compare the two,”\u00a0Covington said on Submission Radio<\/a>. “I mean, WWE, they\u2019re not making $10,000 paychecks, those guys are getting paid, man. They\u2019re all making at least $500k plus a year minimum. Most of them are making multi-millions a year, with their t-shirt deals they\u2019re making even more. And I\u2019m pretty sure all those guys get health insurance and retirement benefits. We don\u2019t get none<\/g> of that sh*t in the UFC, we don\u2019t get no health care unless we\u2019re fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last time I was in training camp and I broke my hand, I had to pay for that out of pocket. Like, that wouldn\u2019t happen in the WWE. So, they don\u2019t even compare. There\u2019s no parallel to it, man. The UFC, we get paid like dog sh*t. It\u2019s pennies over here, and he has no idea, man. If he came and looked into the books and really did some research into the UFC man, there\u2019s no parallel, everyone\u2019s getting taken advantage of in the UFC.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
