Following his knockout win over Edson Barboza\u00a0at\u00a0UFC\u00a0Philadelphia,\u00a0<\/a>Justin Gaethje proclaimed that he is Khabib Nurmagomedov’s toughest challenge. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nurmagomedov’s coach, Javier Mendez does not agree with that statement. In fact, the longtime AKA head coach believes Gaethje isn’t much of a threat to \u201cThe Eagle\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNot much,\u201d Nurmagomedov\u2019s coach, Javier Mendez, said on The MMA Hour<\/a><\/em>. \u201cNot much, because he ain\u2019t going to be able to stop the takedown. None of those guys can. [Nurmagomedov will] take them all down, and if they don\u2019t have much of a ground game, they\u2019re done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe only way it becomes interesting is if Khabib decides to do things. Look back on all his fights, it\u2019s only when he decides to stand with people that it becomes a little bit trickier. I mean, he stood with Conor (McGregor) so he gave Conor a chance, and I\u2019m begging for him, \u2018Go back to father\u2019s plan. Go back to father\u2019s plan.\u2019 He screws with me all the time. He did the same with Michael Johnson. I\u2019m telling him, \u2018What are you doing? Go back to father\u2019s plan.\u2019 Father\u2019s plan, that\u2019s what I call \u2018just wrestle the guy, take him down and wrestle him.\u2019 And he does that all the damn time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Mendez believes Gaethje isn’t much of a threat is the fact that Nurmagomedov’s toughness would outlast Gaethje’s power in a potential fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe guy can take a shot, he doesn\u2019t even get fazed,\u201d Mendez said. \u201cI mean, look, Barboza kicks him in the head, it didn\u2019t even look like, what, nothing. And then Michael Johnson taps him right on the head and I\u2019m like, \u2018Dude, he hit you.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018No, he didn\u2019t.\u2019 And I go, \u2018Yes, he did. He hit you with a decent shot. I mean, you didn\u2019t show it very much, but you can\u2019t get caught like that too much.\u2019 But it\u2019s up to Khabib. Khabib is the reason why these fights are more standup than they need to be. My choice is always, just take them and smash them. And he could do that to every one of these guys.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
