Former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping had a long and illustrious fighting career before he finally hung up the gloves in early 2018. Given his many accomplishments, you might expect him to have a difficult time pinning down the most satisfying moment of his career. Yet when he was asked to name his most satisfying win by UFC color commentator Joe Rogan on the JRE MMA show, Bisping was able to produce an answer quite quickly.<\/p>\n
His pick? Anderson Silva, who he defeated by unanimous decision after a frenzied, five-round war in early 2016.<\/p>\n

“Other than winning the belt, and winning The Ultimate Fighter, I’m sure, what was your most satisfying victory? Was it Cung Le?” Rogan asked.<\/p>\n
“My most satisfying victory\u2026 My word,\u201d Bisping began, thinking for a moment. \u201cAnderson Silva. That was a big one for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Joe Rogan promptly agreed with Michael Bisping, recalling the controversial knee Silva landed in the waning moments of the third round, as Bisping attempted to retrieve his mouth piece.<\/p>\n
“That was a big one because of the cheap knee,” Rogan said.<\/p>\n
“It was cheap, I’m glad you said that,” Bisping responded.<\/p>\n
“It was cheap \u2014 I mean I\u2019m a giant Anderson Silva fan,” Rogan continued. “You don\u2019t get a bigger Anderson Silva fan than me, but you didn\u2019t have your mouthpiece, you were pointing to the mouthpiece, you were separated, and you took a pause because you thought the referee was going to separate you and give you back your mouth piece, and Anderson came in with a knee.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michael Bisping went on to explain why he chose that particular moment to attempt to collect his mouthpiece \u2014 which created the opening for Silva’s thunderous knee.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell I know the rules,” he said. “I know there has to be a lull in the action for the referee to step in. I\u2019m backing up, and we\u2019re not engaging in blows, to me that\u2019s a lull in the action. So I take that moment to point down over here and say \u2018my mouth piece\u2019 and as I\u2019m doing that, he throws a beautiful knee \u2014 it was beautiful, it really was \u2014 and good for him. I don\u2019t hold it against the guy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite taking a rocket-fuelled knee right to the chin, Michael Bisping was able to rally and continued to take the fight to Silva in the fourth round.<\/p>\n
“You f***ing came back,” Joe Rogan praised.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt wasn\u2019t f***ing easy I\u2019ll tell you that much,” Bisping responded with a laugh. “That took every part of my will to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, beating Rockhold and winning the belt, nothing tops that, but the Anderson one, because of that [knee] it just made the storyline so much better,” Bisping continued. “To fight through that adversity, to dig deep…\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI dropped him in the first round, dropped him in the second, I was winning, then that happened. It felt good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bisping also addressed the naysayers who feel he met Anderson Silva when the Brazilian legend was far removed from his competitive prime.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m aware that people will say \u2018You didn\u2019t get Anderson in his prime,”” Bisping said. “Well maybe it wasn\u2019t his prime, but with the amount of shit I talked, you certainly see a difference in the way he fought me to the way he fought recently.\u201d<\/p>\n
