Floyd Mayweather isn’t the only combat sports superstar to receive lucrative offers to partake in exhibition fights with kickboxers overseas. Apparently, his former opponent Conor McGregor received a very similar proposition, as he was recently offered $5 million to battle a Chinese kickboxer in a three-round contest.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll give you a funny one,\u201d McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh said during a recent appearance on\u00a0The True Geordie Podcast<\/a> (transcript via Express<\/a>). \u201cI had a guy message me just a few days ago – a Chinese kickboxer [who] wanted to do three rounds with Conor for $5 million.”<\/p>\n Kavanagh went on to explain that, while he initially believed this offer to Conor McGregor was a sham, it turned out to be legitimate.<\/p>\n “He was going to put it in escrow. It wasn\u2019t like he was just [joking]. Because again, I get a million messages like that a day, but you just don\u2019t pay attention [to them]. But this guy was connected and it was a legitimate offer. But I know he wouldn\u2019t [do it].\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYou get the odd funny message like that. And like I said, it was a genuine [offer]. I know the boxing promoter well and he\u2019s very well known. So he wasn\u2019t going to come with an offer that wasn\u2019t legitimate.\u201d<\/p>\n
