{"id":290917,"date":"2018-11-10T08:08:14","date_gmt":"2018-11-10T16:08:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/?p=290917"},"modified":"2018-11-10T08:08:14","modified_gmt":"2018-11-10T16:08:14","slug":"ben-askren-and-scott-coker-exchange-shots-online-over-failed-bellator-negotiations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/ben-askren-and-scott-coker-exchange-shots-online-over-failed-bellator-negotiations\/","title":{"rendered":"Ben Askren and Scott Coker exchange shots online over failed Bellator negotiations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Undefeated welterweight fighter Ben Askren (18-0 MMA) was apparently in talks with Bellator&#8217;s Scott Coker just weeks before he was traded to the UFC by ONE Championship.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Bellator President, Coker, <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ben-askren\/bellator-and-one-championship-were-talking-to-ben-askren-before-ufc-trade\/\">there were talks<\/a> between his organization and <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/one-championship\/one-heart-of-the-lion-live-results-and-highlights\/\">ONE Championship<\/a> to do some co-promotion which would have allowed Ben Askren to compete at Bellator&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/bellator\/bellator-mma-50-cent-to-pay-welterweight-grand-prix-winner-1-million-as-part-of-new-partnership\/\">welterweight grand prix<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Askren responded to our story on Twitter, revealing that was only ever interested in fighting &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/rory-macdonald\/rory-macdonald-issues-statement-after-bellator-206-loss-to-gegard-mousasi-i-froze-in-the-cage\/\">The Red King<\/a>&#8221; &#8211; not actually joining the promotions grand prix tournament.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Well this is about a half truth from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ScottCoker?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ScottCoker<\/a> I wanted to fight Rory.  He said no.
