{"id":290269,"date":"2018-11-04T18:41:13","date_gmt":"2018-11-05T02:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/?p=290269"},"modified":"2018-11-04T18:41:13","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T02:41:13","slug":"daniel-cormier-responds-to-jon-jones-claim-that-he-will-not-grant-him-a-third-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/daniel-cormier-responds-to-jon-jones-claim-that-he-will-not-grant-him-a-third-fight\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Cormier responds to Jon Jones claim that he will not &#8220;grant&#8221; him a third fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel Cormier defended his UFC heavyweight championship for the first time at last night&#8217;s UFC 230 event, scoring a second-round submission victory over Derrick Lewis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/daniel-cormier\/ufc-230-results-daniel-cormier-submits-derrick-lewis-highlights\/\">The victory,<\/a> which occurred at New York&#8217;s famous Madison Square Garden arena, helped solidify Cormier&#8217;s status as one of the best fighters in mixed martial arts history.<\/p>\n<p>With that said, many fans and analysts\u00a0believe that &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dc_mma\">DC<\/a>&#8221; needs to earn a victory over former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones before he can be considered the &#8216;Greatest Of All Time&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Cormier (21-1 MMA) has already squared off with &#8216;Bones&#8217; on two occasions during his illustrious career, with Jones emerging victories in both contests.<\/p>\n<p>The bitter rivals most recently squared off in the main event of <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/jon-jones\/ufc-214-results-jon-jones-defeats-daniel-cormier-highlights\/\">UFC 214<\/a>, with Jon Jones emerging victorious by way of third-round knockout. That fight was later overturned to a no-contest, this after it was revealed that Jon Jones had failed one of his USADA drug tests.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-275227\" src=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jon-Jones-Daniel-Cormier-300x172.png\" alt=\"Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier\" width=\"300\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jon-Jones-Daniel-Cormier-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jon-Jones-Daniel-Cormier.png 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Despite their heated rivalry, Jon Jones recently said that he has no interest in &#8220;granting&#8221; Daniel Cormier a third opportunity to defeat him.<\/p>\n<p>Those comments did not sit well with &#8220;DC&#8221;, who fired back at Jones shortly following his UFC 230 win over Derrick Lewis.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cGiving me a shot?\u201d<\/em> Daniel Cormier asked at the UFC 230 post-fight press conference (as transcribed by <a href=\"https:\/\/mmajunkie.com\/2018\/11\/daniel-cormier-blasts-jon-jones-on-steroids-who-are-you-to-grant-me-anything\">MMAJunkie<\/a>). <em>\u201cSeriously, giving me a shot? Here\u2019s the deal when it comes to Jones: It\u2019s hard for me to really take anything seriously because you say, \u2018I don\u2019t want to give you a shot,\u2019 and, \u2018You don\u2019t deserve it. I beat you.\u2019 He said he knocked me out, which he did, and you guys know I\u2019ve always said he won the fight. He once put like a video up of a little girl kicking a girl in the head. I said, \u2018Look, man&#8230; she set that kick up perfect. But you were on steroids, dog. You can\u2019t use that.\u2019 It\u2019s the same thing. I\u2019m sure USADA said, whatever, but you still had steroids in your system. It does not matter. You can\u2019t be on steroids in no way, shape or form. That\u2019s not fair.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Daniel Cormier continued:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor him to say, \u2018I don\u2019t think he deserves a title shot,\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019m not going to grant him\u2019, who are you to grant me anything?\u201d <\/em>Daniel Cormier questioned. <em>\u201cI\u2019m the guy that\u2019s been here this whole time.
