Derrick Lewis was just in an absolute war with Alexander Volkov at UFC 229. Volkov had arguably dominated the first fourteen minutes of the\u00a0fight, this\u00a0before\u00a0Lewis knocked him out with just seconds left on the clock\u00a0in\u00a0round\u00a0three<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lewis did not only\u00a0produce a fantastic finish\u00a0at UFC 229, but his post-fight interview also gained him thousands of followers. With his stock as high as ever, the UFC has subsequently booked\u00a0“The Black Beast”\u00a0to challenge\u00a0Daniel Cormier for\u00a0the promotions\u00a0heavyweight title in\u00a0the main event of UFC 230<\/a> at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n

Although Derrick Lewis appeared to take a\u00a0beating against Volkov at UFC 229,\u00a0he recently assured everyone he is 100% healthy ahead of his title fight against Cormier.<\/p>\n

“I will be 100 percent going into this fight,” Lewis said at a UFC 230 media event in Las Vegas. “I went to the doctor and got cleared. Everything checked out pretty good. They basically said I was good to fight.<\/p>\n

Despite Lewis allegedly being 100% healthy, many are counting him out in this\u00a0upcoming\u00a0fight with “DC”.<\/p>\n

That may not be a wise move, as Lewis\u00a0has gone\u00a09-1\u00a0over his last 10 fights,\u00a0thus staking his claim as the\u00a0top contender in the heavyweight division.<\/p>\n

“I believe he\u2019s thinking this is going to be an easy fight for himself,” Lewis said. \u201cGo ahead and think that. It\u2019s crazy I even made it this far without the training I put in before each and every fight,” Lewis said. “I\u2019m serious, I don\u2019t stay in the gym each day like my opponents. I spend probably 30 minutes (training), five minutes sitting and five minutes on my phone posting memes and stuff.<\/p>\n

\u201cI go into every fight with a bad back and overweight and a damn-near diabetic. It doesn\u2019t matter to me that he\u2019s coming into a fight with just a bad hand. That\u2019s good for him, then.\u201d<\/p>\n

It will be a tough task for Lewis to defeat Cormier as cardio issues have been a cause for concern for\u00a0“The Black Beast”\u00a0throughout his career. To make matters worse, he is going against Cormier who is known to be a cardio machine. Even with all the factors appearing to go against Lewis,\u00a0he is still confident\u00a0headed into the\u00a0biggest matchup and payday of his career.<\/p>\n

“As long as I\u2019m 100 percent, I\u2019m in good shape. I don\u2019t care what he\u2019s going to do or what he thinks he can do,” Lewis added. “I\u2019m just going to worry about what I can do. \u2026 If you don\u2019t take me serious, it\u2019s a mistake. I want him to take me serious, I don\u2019t want no excuses or nothing like that. I can\u2019t wait for that fight.”<\/p>\n
