Ultimately, however, Rockhold was booked for a rematch with Chris Weidman, the very man he took the middleweight title from in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The pair&#8217;s rematch will go down at UFC 230 this November 3 in New York City&#8217;s Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n<p>For Luke Rockhold, the choice to accept this fight rather than move to light heavyweight comes down to a few key factors. First and foremost, it&#8217;s simply a big fight for him. Yet it&#8217;s also a good way to keep busy until his friend and <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/exclusive-interviews\/exclusive-javier-mendez-assures-luke-rockhold-will-always-be-welcome-at-aka\/\">training partner<\/a> Daniel Cormier vacates the light heavyweight belt.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Submission Radio #171 Luke Rockhold, Coach Wink, Robin Black\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MgZUZJWXkzM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"kYMbBY\">\u201cSimple enough, it\u2019s a big fight in a big arena,\u201d Luke Rockhold said on Submission Radio (transcript via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2018\/9\/27\/17908456\/luke-rockhold-putting-off-move-to-205-chris-weidman-rematch-prove-the-top-middleweight-in-the-world\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA Fighting<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s a place I\u2019ve always wanted to go and a perfect match-up. It\u2019s a very fitting situation. It\u2019s something that gets me up, gets me excited, and makes me want to drop that weight. And there\u2019s a hold up. There\u2019s a hold up in the [light heavyweight] division. Obviously I\u2019m very close to \u2018DC\u2019 [Daniel Cormier] and I know his standing, where he\u2019s going and what\u2019s going on right now. So there\u2019s a lot of things that need to be cleared up before I make that move and run up on the light heavyweights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"dCigHf\">\u201cIt\u2019s Weidman at Madison Square Garden,\u201d Rockhold continued. \u201cHe\u2019s an incredible fighter, man. He put away Kelvin Gastelum. People want to discredit Weidman because he\u2019s had a couple of rough fights since we encountered but he showed up. You\u2019re only as good as your last fight, they say, and he showed up and put Gastelum away like nobody else has. He\u2019s very relevant in the division. He\u2019s No. 3 in the world so going in an putting him away again speaks volumes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Luke Rockhold still plans to move to 205 in the future, his immediate goal is to prove he&#8217;s the best middleweight alive with another stoppage of Chris Weidman.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0LaN9s\">\u201cI\u2019m coming to win the f**king fight,\u201d Rockhold said. \u201cI\u2019m coming to put him away. I\u2019m gonna leave no doubt. People who doubt me, I\u2019m gonna go out there and show myself. Every fight is different.
