MMAjunkie Radio<\/a> this week, Mike Perry dished on the sparring sessions he had with Cerrone.<\/p>\n\u201cSo I go to the BMF ranch \u2013 this would be the second time we sparred,\u201d Mike Perry said (transcript via MMAjunkie). \u201cWe didn\u2019t even spar, because he\u2019s so easy for me to punch in the face that I didn\u2019t punch him in the face like that. I was throwing jabs, and I was able to just touch him with the end of my glove, and I was like, man, I\u2019m not going to open up on him here in his house on his ranch with all his people around.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I want to get this work. I want to get this aggressive energy out of me. So I started shooting takedowns, and I\u2019m not that good at wrestling; just defensive wrestling moreso. And we went for 23 minutes straight. There wasn\u2019t a lot of punches involved. I started shooting in takedowns to get that energy going and get that sweat and actually try hard.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I start shooting takedowns, and he kind of reversed me. I got up once or twice, and then the last 10 minutes of that round, he was on top of me. I was trying to pull some sweeps, or subs, but he\u2019s a slick grappler, too. I wasn\u2019t able to get him off of me the last 10 minutes.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s laying on me at 23 minutes, and he kind of looks at me, and I just tapped him on the shoulder, like, \u2018Alright, (expletive), get off of me.’\u201d<\/p>\n
If it sounds like Mike Perry is worried about getting out-grappled on November 10, think again. While Cerrone got some nice reversals on him, these occurred\u00a0after\u00a0<\/em>Perry took the fight to the ground. He doesn’t think Cowboy will be able to ground the fight on his own accord.<\/p>\n\u201cMaybe he thinks he\u2019s going to grapple me and make it a boring fight, but the problem is, when he shot on me in the cage at Jackson Wink, he\u2019s too weak to take me down,\u201d Mike Perry said. \u201cWrestling is the mid-game, when you\u2019re in the clinch trying to get the takedown \u2013 not when I\u2019m shooting the takedown on you and my feet stumble over each other, and I can\u2019t get your long ass off me.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s not going to be able to make a boring fight and walk away with a slow win to make him the winningest fighter ever\u2026 . He knows if he can\u2019t beat me in three, then he\u2019s in (expletive) trouble. I\u2019m telling you, I\u2019m going to beat him in three. I\u2019m going to knock him the (expletive) out.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen he got TKOd, there\u2019s three people, (Jorge) Masvidal, Darren Till and (Rafael dos Anjos). He was still protecting himself, and they were punching him in the shoulder. I want to put him to dead, cold sleep. That\u2019s my thing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s nothing against him. We\u2019re fighting. We signed the contract, and I\u2019m trying to put this (expletive) out.\u201d<\/p>\n
