If you give me somebody, I take it. But you need to be smart. When the doctor says, \u2018You\u2019re ready,\u2019 you can go. I\u2019m waiting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy eye is not ready. I want to fight, but it is what it is. The doctor said, \u2018Yoel cannot fight.\u2019 I want to fight on this card, this show. Anytime you have an opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, you\u2019re making history. Let me fill in for Romero,\u201d Carlos Jr said on Twitter. \u201cLets let the world see how our sparring used to go!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, however, Costa has decided to wait for the opportunity to fight Yoel Romero, so we can scratch his name from the UFC 230 bill altogether.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looks like he wants more time to train, to be ready for our fight,\u201d Costa told <a href=\"https:\/\/sportv.globo.com\/site\/combate\/noticia\/borrachinha-confirma-que-pretende-esperar-por-romero-essa-e-a-luta-a-se-fazer.ghtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Combate<\/a> (translation via <a href=\"https:\/\/mmajunkie.com\/2018\/08\/paulo-costa-wait-yoel-romero-no-better-fight-ufc-230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMAjunkie<\/a>). \u201cBut this fight will happen. I\u2019ll wait for him to return. I\u2019ll give him the time he needs to train. The time he finds necessary to be ready for our fight. And I\u2019ll wait. This fight should happen early next year, 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no reason why I\u2019d do another fight before,\u201d Costa said. \u201cHe\u2019s first in the [UFC\u2019s] ranking, so there\u2019s no better fighter for me to fight, considering that [Kelvin] Gastelum and Whittaker were already set to fight for the title. I think that\u2019s the fight to make. So we\u2019ll wait for him.
