While he doesn&#8217;t seem to expect much trouble on Woodley&#8217;s side, he is doubtful Darren Till will make weight.<\/p>\n<p id=\"D53WTz\">\u201cFor Woodley, it\u2019s not about making the weight, that\u2019s not the issue. He was a wrestler; it\u2019s not about making the weight. If Woodley doesn\u2019t fight it\u2019s about something else. That\u2019s the only reason Woodley is out,\u201d Kamaru Usman told host Luke Thomas (transcript via Peter Carroll of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2018\/8\/20\/17684520\/kamaru-usman-darren-till-reminds-me-of-anthony-johnson-continuously-trying-to-make-170\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA Fighting<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"rH3Px4\">\u201cWith Darren Till, he\u2019s shown that it\u2019s a weight issue. He\u2019s a big guy. It\u2019s not his fault, he\u2019s growing, he\u2019s a human being \u2014 he\u2019s a big guy. With Till, it could be a weight issue and it could be something else.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"cuJAHP\">\u201cThat\u2019s how I think of those guys. With Woodley, weight\u2019s not going to be an issue, it\u2019ll be something else. With Till it could be a number of things. I\u2019m ready for either one of them. And I\u2019m ready if nothing happens and I make weight. I did it in college every weekend for free.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kamaru Usman references Darren Till&#8217;s recent fight with Stephen Thompson as the reason for his concerns about a weigh-in miss. Till, to remind, missed his mark pretty significantly for this fight \u2014 and that time around, he had more time to prepare and he didn&#8217;t have to travel.<\/p>\n<p id=\"lymIw8\">\u201cWith that\u00a0Stephen Thompson\u00a0fight, [Till] was given ample amount of time,&#8221; Usman said. &#8220;He knew about that awhile. He was training and training and they were basically just trying to get \u2018Wonderboy\u2019 to take the fight and fly where they were fighting. You had ample amount of time, you didn\u2019t have to travel, you were in your hometown, you slept in you bed and things still got in the way of you making that weight. Now when you don\u2019t have ample amount of time, you have 48 days to train and get down to weight\u2026I saw him in Vegas he\u2019s a big guy, a really big guy.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7fbSed\">\u201cNow it\u2019s 48 days to make weight and you have to travel to America. It makes it a lot more difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Till isn&#8217;t the first huge fighter to attempt to cut down to the welterweight division, of course. For a time, two-time light heavyweight title challenger Anthony &#8220;Rumble&#8221; Johnson went to insane lengths to fight at welterweight. When he finally abandoned the division and began fighting two weight-classes North at light heavyweight, he realized new levels of success.<\/p>\n<p>Kamaru Usman sees some real similarities between Rumble and Till.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-entry-content\">\n<p id=\"ypFw88\">\u201cFor [Till] it\u2019s especially tough,\u201d said Usman. \u201cWhat it reminds me of is Anthony Johnson continuously trying to make 170 back in the day.
