According to UFC color commentator Jimmy Smith, the solution to this recurring problem is probably tougher punishments for those who miss their marks.<\/p>\n<p>Smith offered up his proposed solution to MMA&#8217;s weight-cutting problem during an appearance on UFC Tonight.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BkQil2XFG6C\/<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what Smith suggested:<\/p>\n<p>If a fighter misses weight for a regular, three-round fight, he believes they should lose a point, meaning they start the fight at deficit. If a fighter misses weight for a five-round fight, he feels they should immediately be docked 2 points. And finally, if a fighter misses weight twice, he feels they should receive a one-year suspension. He also suggested the offending fighter should probably be banned from that weight class.<\/p>\n<p>Smith is not the only MMA personality to chime in on this problem recently.<\/p>\n<p>UFC welterweight Alan Jouban recently <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/exclusive-interviews\/exclusive-alan-jouban-thinks-he-knows-why-some-fighters-miss-weight-by-so-much\/\">offered a solution of his own<\/a> on an episode of <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/podcasts\/bjpenn-com-radio-ep-83-alonzo-menifield-angela-magana-juan-archuleta-martin-nguyen-alan-jouban\/\">BJPENN.COM Radio<\/a>. In his eyes, fighters need to be hit with significant fines when they miss weight.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Man, you gotta really hit these guys in the pocketbook,&#8221; he said.\u00a0\u201cYou gotta say \u2018look we\u2019re taking your entire win bonus and giving it to your opponent\u2019 or whatever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bellator fighter and commentator Chael Sonnen also offered a potential solution to this problem. His resembles Smith&#8217;s but is undeniably <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/chael-sonnen\/chael-sonnen-suggests-harsh-solution-for-trend-of-fighters-missing-weight\/\">harsher<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"PnFgN5\">\u201cMy solution is \u2018you\u2019re done, you\u2019re not fighting, go home,\u2019\u201d Sonnen said on a recent episode of his Beyond the Fight podcast. \u201c\u2019You\u2019re cut, you\u2019re released\u2019, however extreme you want to get with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"v5XztN\">\u201c[Promotions need to say] \u2019You broke the deal, you cheated, you lied on the contract, and we\u2019re not using you.\u2019 And I agree that, with the plethora of people in MMA that miss weight, sometimes two and three people a night, that that is a significant problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">Do you like Jimmy Smith&#8217;s solution to MMA&#8217;s weigh-in problem?
