Poirier even claimed that he&#8217;d been <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/dustin-poirier\/dustin-poirier-says-nurmagomedovs-team-reached-out-about-title-fight-they-want-to-fight-me\/\">contacted by Nurmagomedov&#8217;s team about a potential fight<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Khabib\u2019s manager reached out to me and told me I\u2019m the next guy in line and they want to fight me,\u201d Poirier said on a recent episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jnXeX7N_5LY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The MMA Hour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From the sounds of it, however, Poirier&#8217;s title shot will probably wait. According to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, the UFC is working on a rematch between Poirier and former champion Eddie Alvarez, who he battled to a disappointing no contest in May of 2017. The bout is being targeted for the UFC&#8217;s July 28 stop in Calgary, Alberta.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Not official, but I&#39;m hearing UFC is interested in doing the Alvarez\/Poirier rematch in Calgary on July 28. That&#39;s a heck of a main event if it comes together.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bokamotoESPN\/status\/991109873189318656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 1, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not official, but I&#8217;m hearing UFC is interested in doing the Alvarez\/Poirier rematch in Calgary on July 28,&#8221; Okamoto said in a Tweet. &#8220;That&#8217;s a heck of a main event if it comes together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Okamoto&#8217;s wording is interesting, as it implies that this Poirier-Alvarez rematch would headline the Calgary card. This would be contrary to <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/valentina-shevchenko\/report-ufc-eyeing-nicco-montano-vs-valentina-shevchenko-flyweight-title-fight-for-calgary-main-event\/\">a previous report<\/a> that the card would be topped by a women&#8217;s flyweight title fight between champ Nicco Montano and challenger Valentina Shevchenko.<\/p>\n<p>If Poirier and Alvarez do indeed rematch in Calgary, it&#8217;s hard to say who will get the next crack at lightweight gold. Kevin Lee, who recently pummelled Edson Barboza to a stoppage win, is one option. Another is troubled former champ <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/fighter\/conor-mcgregor\">Conor McGregor<\/a>, who is currently embroiled in a complicated legal situation after his infamous rampage in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>While Dustin Poirier initially hellbent on a rematch with Eddie Alvarez, he has since changed his tune, suggesting <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/dustin-poirier\/dustin-poirier-explains-why-hes-not-interested-in-rematches-with-mcgregor-or-alvarez\/\">it&#8217;s not a fight he wants<\/a>.
