One of the most talked about fights in MMA at present is a possible showdown between dominating UFC flyweight champion<\/a> Demetrious Johnson, and reigning UFC bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw. While this fight is\u00a0what both men want<\/a>, it seems to be stuck in a mire of unsuccessful negotiations. In the opinion of former UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping, that’s a damn shame.<\/p>\n

In Bisping’s eyes, Johnson needs an opponent of Dillashaw’s caliber to solidify his already sterling reputation in the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is kind of frustrating because Demetrious Johnson, I\u2019m telling you, he probably is the pound-for-pound best,\u201d Bisping said on his Believe You Me<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>podcast (h\/t MMAFighting.com<\/a>). \u201cWhen you look at the way he performs, you think, \u2018Yeah, he\u2019s pound-for-pound the best,\u2019 but then you look at his opponents and it\u2019s like, I can look fantastic if I\u2019m fighting my daughter. I can do crazy s**t. I can pick her up and suplex her and put her in an armbar. I could pull off the sickest submissions if I was doing it against a 12-year-old girl.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not saying that Demetrious\u2019 former opponents are like that of a 12-year-old girl – maybe 15,” Bisping continued. “You see the point I\u2019m making. Some of the competition has been very, very good but that\u2019s always been the classic, cliche, knock on his career, that the competition hasn\u2019t been as good. Then we hear about TJ vs. DJ and it\u2019s like, \u2018Wow, here\u2019s an opportunity where Demetrious Johnson can prove that he can beat somebody like TJ Dillashaw.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got to give DJ his credit. He\u2019s incredible. He\u2019s always looking for the finish. He\u2019s exciting, he really is. But the competition, unless you were a hardcore MMA fan, you wouldn\u2019t know who the hell they were if you walked past them. I\u2019ll be honest, I wouldn\u2019t recognize some of those guys and I live and breathe mixed martial arts. If some of those guys walked past me in the street, I wouldn\u2019t know.”<\/p>\n

Bisping went on to argue that a fight with Dillashaw might be what it takes to earn Demetrious Johnson the kind of major payday he deserves.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother knock [on Johnson] has been that he hasn\u2019t been a proven draw,\u201d the former middleweight champ said. \u201cHe hasn\u2019t sold big pay-per-views. I don\u2019t think that\u2019s Demetrious\u2019 fault. I think that\u2019s just the trend that we see in combat sports. Super light weight classes like that have always had a hard time drawing at the box office. But him against T.J., that\u2019s an interesting fight. That\u2019s a fight that gets people to sit up, take notice, give him respect, and essentially, earn them both a lot of money.\u201d<\/p>\n
