Hurricane Harvey has devastated hundreds of thousands of people in Texas and has sadly claimed a few lives<\/a> in the wake of the natural disaster.<\/p>\n

Houston UFC heavyweight<\/a> Derrick Lewis has been helping out members from his community that have been in need as flooding in his area continues.<\/p>\n

Lewis told MMA Junkie<\/a> that he even helped a man who felt the need to bring his Confederate flag with him, which has its known association with racism.<\/p>\n

\u201cI picked up one guy and his family, his wife \u2013 he just kept apologizing to me, because all he really had was his clothes, and he wanted to take his Confederate flag,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cHe wanted to take that with him, and he just apologized and said, \u2018Man, I\u2019ll sit in the back of your truck, man. I don\u2019t want to have my flag inside of your truck like this.\u2019 I said, \u2018Man, I\u2019m not worried about that.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s saying, \u2018You never know if you ever need someone, so \u2026\u2019 \u2013 I already knew where he was going with it. I just said, \u2018Don\u2019t even worry about it. It\u2019s OK. I don\u2019t care about that.\u2019 His wife kept hitting him and saying, \u2018You should have just left it.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis said that it’s not something he hasn’t seen before and was just focused on helping out those in need.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care about that,\u201d Lewis told MMAjunkie. \u201cI live in Texas. It ain\u2019t nothing new. I\u2019ve been living in the South all my life, and it ain\u2019t nothing I hadn\u2019t seen before or discussed about. I don\u2019t care about that type of stuff. I just wanted to help him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis posted a few videos to social media where people are seen walking through areas flooded up to their waists and getting some children likely to safety centers in a large lifted pickup truck.<\/p>\n
