Over a year ago, Conor McGregor brought in South African boxing champion Chris Van Heerden to help him prepare for his rematch with Nate Diaz. Conor McGregor<\/a> then posted footage of the pair sparring to his social media accounts, showing himself tagging Van Heerden repeatedly. That didn’t sit too well with Van Heerden, who was quick to fire back at McGregor and release the unedited footage<\/a> of the sparring session.<\/p>\n

The footage remains the only footage of McGregor sparring against a professional boxer, however ahead of the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match on August 26th<\/a>, Mayweather’s assistant coach Nate Jones spoke to Submission Radio<\/a> to explain why he isn’t sold on the footage being 100% legitimate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I\u2019ve seen that sparring. First of all, like I said, I looked at it, but to me it looked (like) it\u2019s a possibility it could be staged. We don\u2019t fall for that, we prepare for anything. Please believe me, I looked at it and I came up with my opinion that it could have been for real but it could have been staged. I don\u2019t know. His style is a different style from Floyd. I don\u2019t want nobody messing with Floyd. He may be more difficult than Floyd\u2019s gonna be for him. Styles make fights. He may give him a different look inside this ring when he\u2019s sparring him than what Floyd\u2019s gonna give him. We don\u2019t take none of that light. That\u2019s a different man. That man\u2019s name does not start with Floyd Mayweather, so we\u2019re not worried about that. We\u2019re gonna train hard. ”<\/p>\n

“I looked it and after a while I watched the whole entirety of it, but I know that it could be staged and that don\u2019t mean anything. We\u2019re not gonna take that lightly. That don\u2019t mean nothing to us. I looked at it, but it don\u2019t mean anything. We\u2019re gonna train like never before. I don\u2019t think Floyd looked at it cause he don\u2019t do that. We\u2019re not worried about that, we don\u2019t worry about that. When you look bad, it don\u2019t matter to us because they could be staged. He might get in the ring with somebody else and they could be staged, or it could be him. We\u2019re just going to see what\u2019s going to happen on August 26th when he\u2019s lined up with the very best. We\u2019ll see then.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
