One of the hottest rivalries in MMA today is the one shared by reigning bantamweight champ Cody Garbrandt, and former champ TJ Dillashaw. As Dillashaw’s coach, Duane Ludwig has been dragged into the middle of this sizzling beef, which has recently been coming to a head on The Ultimate Fighter.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday’s edition of BJ Penn Radio<\/a>, Ludwig explained to host Kinch<\/a> that he has a hard time coming to grips with all the trash talk and bravado that is produced by rivalries of this kind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a smart person, but I need to dumb myself down in order to understand what\u2019s going on in mixed martial arts,\u201d he said.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ludwig then touched on the trend of fighters doing their best to emulate MMA superstar Conor McGregor<\/a>. Apparently, Ludwig has lots of respect for McGregor, but believes not everyone is cut out for McGregor’s brand of self promotion.<\/p>\n

\"Conor<\/p>\n

\u201cLook what Conor\u2019s been able to do,\u201d he said. \u201cThat mother fucker might fight [Floyd] Mayweather. That is huge. I\u2019m a Conor McGregor fan, that guy is making some big things happen. But there\u2019s a very select few people that can pull that off, it shouldn\u2019t be everybody acting mad and talking stupid. You know, people are trying to talk like Conor, but he doesn\u2019t swear, he\u2019s really articulate, he\u2019s funny. The guy\u2019s a genius at what he\u2019s doing. I\u2019m all for that. And he performs, he loves the limelight. I\u2019m all for it. I want to see how far he can go as a human. I think if we were fucking thousands of years ago, he would probably be the king. He\u2019d be running shit. Tell me that guy couldn\u2019t be running a country. He\u2019s probably running Ireland.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ludwig then reiterated that while he’s happy to see McGregor thrive, it’s frustrating to see so many others attempt to follow in his footsteps.<\/p>\n

“I mean good for him, but everyone is trying to act like him and I\u2019d like to see more respect and honor. I\u2019d like to view this as a martial arts industry rather than just an entertainment industry with smack talk like the WWE.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
