Demetrious Johnson explains why UFC on FOX 24 didn’t draw big numbers <\/strong><\/p>\n

UFC flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson successfully defended his strap for the tenth time at this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 24 event submitting Wilson Reis in the third-round<\/a>\u00a0of their main event fight.<\/p>\n

With the victory, “Mighty Mouse” tied former middleweight champion Anderson Silva for the most consecutive title defenses in the promotions history with ten.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately not a large amount of fans tuned in for what was a very exciting fight card in Kansas City.<\/p>\n

Dave Meltzer reported yesterday that the “Johnson vs. Reis” event did the worst overnight numbers in UFC on FOX history with just 1.74 million viewers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On today’s episode of The MMA Hour<\/a>, “Mighty Mouse” explained how poor marketing from the UFC played a big part in the poor viewership numbers from this past Saturday’s event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went on Twitch and said \u2018I want to ask everyone in the world, have any of you guys seen a commercial for my fight against Wilson Reis?\u2019\u201d Johnson stated. “And everyone was like \u2018No, no no.\u2019 One guy said \u2018I saw one (commercial) on the UFC.com YouTube channel.\u2019 I\u2019m like \u2018okay, I haven\u2019t seen one either. And you know what I watch all day? Fox Sports 1 and Fox because I watch Monster Jam with the kids.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n

The flyweight kingpin continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first time I saw a commercial for my fight was UFC 210. The first time I saw a commercial was one week before my fight. No one around here knew I was fighting. Simply because they didn\u2019t see any commercials. You have to take into account, how much advertising did they (the UFC) do? I put that in the back of my mind and then don\u2019t worry about it and go out there and put it out of my mind and put on my performance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
