Last night, in the main event of UFC 210, brick-fisted light heavyweight star Anthony Johnson came up short<\/a> for a second time to reigning light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier<\/a>, succumbing to a second-round rear-naked choke.<\/p>\n

While nothing can be taken away from Cormier’s impressive win, the champ did seem to be helped by Rumble’s bizarre strategy. As one of the most devastating strikers in the game, Rumble’s advantages were clearly at range, on the feet. In a strange twist, however, he opted to attempt to grapple with the former Olympic wrestler Cormier.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, Rumble’s deviating from his own strength and fighting Cormier at his own game did not go over well with his corner. In fact, his coaches seemed to be downright livid with his choice to do so.<\/p>\n

In corner audio obtained by MMAJunkie.com, Rumble’s coaches \u2013 namely Henri Hooft \u2013 can be heard scolding Rumble for his bizarre choice to wrestle the champ, pleading with him to revert back to his striking-based strengths.<\/p>\n

Round 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Voice: Take your time. Nice. Take your time. Don\u2019t take him down.<\/p>\n

Hooft: Don\u2019t wrestle him.<\/p>\n

Voice: If you\u2019re going to go, go single.<\/p>\n

Hooft: You don\u2019t have to wrestle him, AJ. Just relax.<\/p>\n

Voice: Don\u2019t wrestle him.<\/p>\n

Hooft: Get out of there. Get out of there.<\/p>\n

Grappling coach Neil Melanson: OK, stud. Now, let\u2019s get your hands hot.<\/p>\n

Voice: Why is he wrestling him?<\/p>\n

Hooft: This is stupid.<\/p>\n

Voice: Why is he wrestling him?<\/p>\n

Hooft: (Expletive) it, man. Just get off the cage.<\/p>\n

Voice: Get out of there.<\/p>\n

Voice: Why isn\u2019t he listening?<\/p>\n

(Johnson and Cormier are broken up by referee John McCarthy, and Johnson lands kicks.)<\/p>\n

Voice: He\u2019s tired already, DC. He doesn\u2019t need to do this.<\/p>\n

Voice: Why isn\u2019t he listening?<\/p>\n

Hooft: I don\u2019t know why he\u2019s doing that. We have no (expletive) eyes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Break between Round 1 and Round 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hooft: Can you tell me why you\u2019re wrestling? Now, you\u2019re not going to wrestle. You take your distance. Stay away, two steps away. Why are you so worried about everything? The kicks and the knees are really good, but no kicks. Where\u2019s your hands?<\/p>\n

Voice: You\u2019re doing great. Don\u2019t (expletive) wrestle him.<\/p>\n

Hooft: If you stand your distance, it\u2019s an easy game. Why make it difficult?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Round 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hooft: Movement. Athletic. Movement. That\u2019s it. Take your distance.<\/p>\n

(Johnson reverses against the cage and goes for another takedown)<\/p>\n

Hooft: You need distance.<\/p>\n

Hooft: I\u2019m not saying nothing.<\/p>\n

(Cormier has Johnson on the mat and is setting up a choke)<\/p>\n

Hooft: It\u2019s going the same as last time.<\/p>\n
