Throughout the course of 2017, boxing icon Floyd Mayweather and UFC star Conor McGregor<\/a> have continued to be linked to a boxing match. While conflicting reports have continued to emerge on the matter, McGregor recently informed media members at a boxing event at the Madison Square Garden that a fight was “very close” to being finalized.<\/a><\/p>\n

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker spoke to MMAFighting<\/a> about the potential groundbreaking showdown:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been built up so much, I want to see it,\u201d Coker said. \u201cTo me it\u2019s like, I\u2019m the first guy to buy tickets. I\u2019d love to be there. Wouldn\u2019t that be great? I would love to go, because, look, Conor is special. He\u2019s done a lot of great things athletically, but man, he can just talk and talk and talk and talk. And I love that. I love characters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love fighters who become characters, like Chael (Sonnen), or different guys. I love that, and to me, it goes back to my Japanese roots and being at Dynamite and seeing (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira fight Bob Sapp. Tell me that wasn\u2019t the first fun fight, right? And to me, it\u2019s like, these guys become characters, and Conor\u2019s become this bigger than life guy. To me, why wouldn\u2019t I want to see it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, when two guys are throwing down, you never know,\u201d Coker said. \u201cSome people said, \u2018hey, this is like celebrity boxing, this is like a sparring session for Mayweather.\u2019 And to Mayweather\u2019s credit, he\u2019s super hard to hit. Manny Pacquiao couldn\u2019t hit him. People have a hard time hitting him, but all it takes it one or two punches, man. It could change the whole game. So, to me, I hope that fight happens and I hope they get through all the legal or all the political stuff and make it happen, because they\u2019ll get my $99.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
