Stephen \u201cWonderboy\u201d Thompson suffered a majority decision loss to Tyron Woodley earlier this month at UFC 209 in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

The loss marked Thompson\u2019s second unsuccessful attempt to steal the title from Woodley<\/a>, as the pair had battled to a majority decision draw at UFC 205 this past November in New York.<\/p>\n

Following his loss to \u201cThe Chosen One\u201d at UFC 209, \u201cWonderboy\u201d revealed that he had suffered a torn MCL<\/a> during the five-round battle.<\/p>\n

BJPENN.com\u2019s Chris Taylor<\/a> recently spoke with Stephen Thompson where he discussed the extent of the injury which he suffered at UFC 209.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have surgery tomorrow on my right knee. It is nothing to serious, just a torn meniscus.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Taylor mentioned to Thompson that he thought the injury was to his MCL. \u201cWonderboy\u201d clarified that he had suffered injuries to both his MCL and Meniscus.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the MCL, but the doctors said that injury would heal on its own.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Taylor asked Thompson if he feels the injury will have him on the sidelines for any extended period of time.<\/p>\n

\u201cNah, I don\u2019t think so. I am excited to get back to training.\u201d Stephen said laughing.<\/em><\/p>\n

Taylor asked Thompson if he had seen Coach Kavanagh\u2019s suggestion that Gunnar Nelson\u2019s next fight be against him. <\/p>\n

\u201cYea I saw that too,\u201d Thompson said laughing. \u201cWe will probably face each other one day but right now I have my sights set on Carlos Condit or Robbie Lawler.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Gunnar Nelson is coming off a second-round submission victory over Alan Jouban<\/a> which occurred last weekend in London.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, former champion Robbie Lawler has not competed since his first-round knockout loss to Tyron Woodley which occurred at UFC 201 in July of 2016.<\/p>\n

As for Carlos Condit, the former UFC interim welterweight champion has not competed inside the cage since his August loss to Demian Maia which came via first-round submission.<\/p>\n
