This week, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor shook up the world once again as he spoke at a boxing event<\/a>, where he promised to silence his doubters when he steps into the ring with Floyd Mayweather.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the boxing guy, watch me take over boxing. Trust me on that. No one in this boxing game knows what\u2019s coming, trust me on that, when I step in there I\u2019m going to shock the whole god damn world. Trust me on that! Look me in the eyes, 28 years of age, confident as a motherfucker. Long, range-y, dangerous with every hand, trust me I\u2019m going to stop Floyd. You\u2019re all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words. I\u2019m out of here\u2026I am boxing!\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now, Chael Sonnen believes that while interesting, the fight is disrespectful to boxing. He spoke on his ‘You’re Welcome’<\/a> podcast:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the fact that anybody is weighing in that there\u2019s a contest there is such an incredible disrespect to boxing,\u201d said Sonnen during a recent episode of his You\u2019re Welcome podcast. \u201cIf that fight goes more than 30 seconds, it shames boxing. If it goes out of the first round, it humiliates boxing.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was to tell you in any other sport, \u2018Hey, we\u2019ve got a great athlete from one field, that\u2019s never done a sport before, and he\u2019s gonna come on and take on the best current living guy in that sport,\u2019 it\u2019d be laughed at. If I told you, I\u2019ve got a guy who\u2019s never played basketball, sure he\u2019s shot the ball around and been on a court and had the ball in his hand, but he\u2019s never played a competitive game of basketball before, and we\u2019re gonna put him up against LeBron James, it would be laughed at. \u2018We\u2019ve got a gal that\u2019s never played tennis before, she\u2019s fooled around with a ball in the gym, she\u2019s gonna take on Serena Williams,\u2019 it would be laughed at.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that there\u2019s even an interest there – and I\u2019m one of the people that shares the interest – but the fact that there\u2019s even an interest there is so disrespectful to the entire sport of boxing. When that fight\u2019s done, Conor is gonna go more than 30 seconds. He\u2019s likely to go more than one round – he shouldn\u2019t, but he is likely to go more than one round – and it\u2019s going to humiliate boxing.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
