The biggest ongoing narrative in combat sports today surrounds a potential boxing mega fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor<\/a>, and semi-retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. Each week, this prospective showdown seems to generate dozens of new headlines, some suggesting the fight might actually happen<\/a>, others suggesting it’s a near impossibility<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, this influx of Mayweather-McGregor stories is starting to grow old for some members of the combat sports community. We know that UFC welterweight Stephen Thompson, for example, is sick and tired of hearing about it<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and he’s certainly not alone.<\/p>\n

Now, it sounds like Mayweather himself can be added to the list of people who are growing weary of all the talk. In a recent interview with ESPN<\/a>, the undefeated boxer was asked about this potential showdown, and he seemed to be quite exhausted\u00a0with the ceaseless back-and-forth surrounding this fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Conor McGregor fight, I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s going to happen,\u201d a frustrated-sounding Mayweather said. \u201cIf it do, it do, if it don\u2019t, it don\u2019t. They ask me about this fight always. They’re always asking me about this fight.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mayweather then took a firm stance on the topic, telling Conor McGregor to sign a contract if he really wants the fight to happen, and to stop talking about it if he’s not prepared to do so.<\/p>\n

“If Conor McGregor really wants this fight to happen, stop blowing smoke up everybody’s ass,” he said. “Sign the paper. Sign the paper. You said you were boss, so just sign the paper and let’s make it happen.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

McGregor, who is currently under contract with the UFC, was last seen in action when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight title. He is currently enjoying some time off from the sport as he prepares to become a father.<\/p>\n
