In a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.squaremile.com\/sean-shelby-james-elliott-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\">SquareMile.com,<\/a> The UFC matchmaker explained that his crowning achievement was <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/the-5-best-womens-title-fights-in-ufc-history\/3\/\">a December 2013 rematch<\/a> between then women&#8217;s bantamweight champ <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/fighter\/ronda-rousey\/\">Ronda Rousey,<\/a> and the recently retired <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/miesha-tate\/mma-community-reacts-miesha-tates-retirement\/\">Miesha Tate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cRousey vs Tate, December 2013,\u201d Shelby said when asked which\u00a0fight he was most proud of. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t easy to put together and nobody had any idea of the power Ronda possessed at the time, on the canvas or off. The fight was crazy, and women\u2019s MMA obviously existed before, but it\u2019s really the fight that I believe began to change the total complexion of the sport. It\u2019s where a true icon began to be realized and led to one of the wildest rides ever in the Octagon, with Ronda dominating a sport as she became the face of a movement.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Shelby then shed a bit of a light on the responsibilities of his job. Apparently, it&#8217;s not as cool as it sounds.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe job title is a bit of a misnomer,\u201d he said. \u201cIt sounds cool, but the matching up of two athletes and getting them to commit to a bout is the smallest aspect of the job. It\u2019s managing 500+ contracts. It\u2019s negotiating the contracts, signing and releasing the athletes. It\u2019s scouting the new talent. It\u2019s putting out fires and lots of problem solving. Plan \u2018A&#8217; went up in flames. Plan \u2018B&#8217; went over a cliff. I\u2019m always on Plan &#8216;C&#8217;. In addition you have to be aware of as many things about the sport as possible.
