When Jon Jones withdrew from his scheduled UFC 200 main event title fight with Daniel Cormier, UFC President Dana White assured that he would never trust him with headlining honors again<\/a>. And while White has certainly gone back on similar assurances in the past, it’s easy to see him sticking with this one, given Jones’ many past\u00a0transgressions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Monday’s edition of the MMA Hour<\/a> however, Daniel Cormier raised an interesting point. If \u2013 or perhaps it’s better say\u00a0when \u2013\u00a0<\/em>he and Jones rematch, it’ll be such a mammoth fight that’s hard to imagine it not being the headliner of a pay-per-view. In fact, Cormier can really only imagine his potential rematch with Jones serving as a co-headliner in one scenario. That scenario is one where headlining honors\u00a0are awarded to UFC lightweight champ and MMA superstar Conor McGregor.<\/p>\n

“I’m not gonna fight Jones just on some card, you know.” he said. “It would have to be a certain kind of card if we were going to take a co-main event type of role.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

“I’ll put it out there,” he continued. “Jon and I will not fight in the co-main event to anyone but Conor McGregor. That’s the only way that makes sense, right? So therein is the problem. Then you have a whole bunch of guys who make a whole bunch of money on one fight card. So it’s like, what are you going to do, you know?”\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Cormier certainly makes an interesting point here. Despite White’s reluctance to trust Jones as a pay-per-view headliner, it’s hard to imagine this potential rematch being relegated to co-main event status, or worse, the headliner of a Fox card of Fight Night.<\/p>\n
