This past weekend, in the main event of Bellator 170, UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz stepped into the Bellator MMA cage against former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen<\/a> for a highly anticipated grudge match. <\/p>\n

The fight didn’t last long, as Ortiz quickly managed to secure the takedown and ultimately submit Sonnen<\/a> with a rear-naked choke. While Sonnen tapped to the choke, viewers were quick to question the legitimacy of the fight, questioning whether or not the fight was fixed after footage emerged of Ortiz appearing to tap Sonnen’s hand, in what many assume was a signal. Ortiz was quick to fire back at critics in an interview:<\/p>\n

\"Tito<\/p>\n

\u201cAll these people are saying it was a fixed fight, those are the ones that are just fu*king haters,\u201d Ortiz said on social media (via Bloody Elbow). \u201cBelieve me I tried to punch him hard in the face. I tried to elbow him in the face, hard. He gave his back, and I\u2019m going to take the choke.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was \u2018fixed\u2019, so that\u2019s why I held on the choke a little longer? He even marked me. I got marks in my face from him. C\u2019mon people. C\u2019mon. I don\u2019t fu*king do fixed fights, stupid! Haters are gonna be haters.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now, referee Big John McCarthy, who was forced to jam his thumb into Ortiz’ trachea<\/a> to get him to let go of the choke, responded to Ortiz vs. Sonnen fixed fight accusations, saying:<\/p>\n

\"Tito<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I would love if I could do it is take people that say that\u2019s a fix (and say), \u2018Good, I\u2019m going to put you in that hold that he was in, and I want you to feel it. I want you to see how strong Tito Ortiz really is. I want you to feel the pressure that Chael was under.\u2019 You could see even on the screen how purple his face was starting to get.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat choke was not what we\u2019d say is a perfect choke. It\u2019s not. It\u2019s on one side of his neck. But trust me, on one side, you start to shut down that one carotid artery, it will put him out. It will just take a lot longer.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
