Despite having fought just twice inside the Octagon, “Platinum” Mike Perry is quickly emerging as one of the welterweight division’s most popular \u2013and dangerous<\/a> \u2013 fighters.\u00a0Currently preparing for a December 17 scrap<\/a> with fellow prospect Alan Jouban<\/a>, Perry recently took time out of his busy schedule for an appearance on BJPenn.com’s Rapid Fire with host Chris Taylor<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Given that this interview occurred just days after the unforgettable UFC 205, many of Perry’s talking points surrounded UFC 205 \u2013 particularly the card’s co-main and main events.<\/p>\n

The co-main event pitted welterweight champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley with streaking contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. After five competitive rounds of action, this fight was ruled a majority draw<\/a>. With this result, Woodley retained his title, though he didn’t technically walk away with a win.<\/p>\n

In his interview with Taylor, Perry gave his thoughts on this incredibly entertaining fight, and explained that he saw it was a fairly clear-cut win for Woodley.<\/p>\n

“I thought it was brilliant,” he said. “I couldn’t believe that it was ruled a draw. A boxing friend of mine actually hit me up right when it was over and said ‘what do you think Mike?’ I said ‘Tyron Woodley all day.’ My buddy, who is a great boxer, says ‘I think it is a draw’. And I was like there is no way. And then they said [Woodley] won and then they called it back and said it was a draw and I was like how can than be when there was two 10-8 rounds. Plus there was two rounds that should have been 9-9. Because Wonderboy didn’t actually get off and do anything to Woodley. I mean yea there were points where Woodley was very lackadaisical and wasn’t doing much and being very cautious. But that is what allowed him to explode in round one and in round four. I thought it was a brilliant and intelligent fight on the part of Woodley. And I’ll add I wouldn’t mind watching it again. It was such a great fight.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Perry then touched on the main event, which saw featherweight champion Conor McGregor knock out lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez<\/a>, making UFC history as the first fighter to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously as he did.<\/p>\n

“I saw it going that way [it did],” Perry said. “I didn’t see it going that fast though. Actually it was a second-round knockout and I think\u00a0I predicted the second or third. I wouldn’t bet against Conor unless he was fighting me. He’s been breaking records and making history and I saw him doing that against Alvarez. McGregor knows how to talk and he knows how to walk. Good for him man, I’m proud of that guy. He is making it better for all of us. I’m not going to front. But just because I like him don’t mean I don’t want to fight him. Like he said ‘they all want to fight me’. And yea, he is right. Maybe I can make a wave and call him out.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
