Earlier this year, in the main event of UFC 196<\/a>, Stockton, California’s Nate Diaz shocked the world with a second-round submission defeat of Conor McGregor. Several months later, in the main event of August’s UFC 202, the pair went at it again.<\/p>\n

Though many fans expected this rematch to be decisive, one way or the other, it was not. Instead, Diaz and McGregor battled for five, wild rounds, pelting each other with heavy artillery from bell to bell, and forcing several major momentum shifts. In the end, however, McGregor’s efforts in the first, second, and fourth rounds would earn him the judges’ favor, as he walked away with a hard-fought majority decision win<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the wake of this fight, there was considerable argument as to whether the judges got the decision right. Many fans, pundits, and even other fighters, believed the decision should have instead been awarded to Diaz.<\/p>\n

One of these fighters was UFC flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson<\/a>, who was mic’d up during the fight, and provided round-by-round scoring as the unforgettable action unfurled. By the time the bout was over, the flyweight king was convinced Diaz had done enough to sway the judges. “Nate got it, Nate won,” he said at the end of the fight.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

At the end of the day, of course, it doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks, as the three cage-side judges sided with McGregor when it mattered, and their verdict is not going to change.<\/p>\n

With this score-settling rematch with Diaz in the books, McGregor is now scheduled for a lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez.<\/a> If he wins, he’ll become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two UFC title simultaneously. Diaz’s future, however, remains fairly nebulous. It is not known who, when, or even if he’ll fight again.<\/p>\n

Mighty Mouse, meanwhile, will next defend his title on December 3. His challenger will be produced by the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, which is currently airing on Wednesday nights on FS1.<\/p>\n
