Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, Randy Couture spoke about his past with fighting with the UFC in court, to which even the two-division UFC champion could not compete with.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey\u2019re going to hire the same lawyers and do the same thing to keep Georges in line and keep Georges fighting for their brand,\u201d<\/em> Couture recently told <a href=\"http:\/\/mmajunkie.com\/2016\/10\/randy-couture-spent-500k-fighting-ufc-in-court-expects-tough-road-for-georges-st-pierre\" target=\"_blank\">MMA Junkie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After having some issues with the UFC, &#8220;The Natural&#8221; had tried his best to get out of his contract and was looking to put together a fight with Fedor Emelianenko, which would have been a big superfight at the time. However, the battle in court proved to be too much for Couture.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Randy-Couture.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"730\" height=\"380\" src=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Randy-Couture.png\" alt=\"UFC Hall of Fame\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-190160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Randy-Couture.png 730w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Randy-Couture-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Randy-Couture-585x305.png 585w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Randy-Couture-390x203.png 390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI settled because I was 45 years old,\u201d<\/em> Couture said. <em>\u201cThey were going to drag it out as long as they could and basically try to bankrupt me. I\u2019d already spent $500,000 of my own money to pursue getting away and being able to make the biggest fight of that time happen.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>With the push on fighter&#8217;s unions being formed and the fight for MMA fighters to be included in the <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/randy-couture\/randy-couture-discusses-importance-of-ali-act-expanding-to-mma\/\">Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act<\/a>, Couture says that with more unity amongst the athletes, big changes in favor of the fighters can happen.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAs independent contractors, we have a lot of power if we unite, and the promotions like the UFC or WME don\u2019t even know, to be honest,\u201d<\/em> Couture stated. <em>\u201cThey would have to listen, because without the product, without the fighters, there are no fights. It may take something that significant, to walk out, to pull out, to get them to change their business practices, because their business practices aren\u2019t fair. The fact that they sold that company for $4.4 billion is a big wakeup call for all the fighters who\u2019ve been lending their blood, sweat and tears to building that brand over the years.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cA lot of these problems get solved with these contracts and the promotion\u2019s power over fighters if they would simply amend the Ali Act to incorporate MMA,\u201d<\/em> Couture said. <em>\u201cIf Georges is able to pull this off, then it\u2019s good for us as fighters.
