At UFC 205, Conor McGregor will look to make UFC history once again as he steps into the Octagon to fight UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez on November 12th<\/a>. Should McGregor emerge from ‘The Empire State’ victorious, he will not only become just the third man in UFC history to become a two-division world champion, but also the first man in the history of the UFC to hold two championship belts simultaneously.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the fight, there has been some controversy surrounding the fact that McGregor was able to keep the featherweight championship for the fight, and didn’t have to vacate the belt prior to the scrap like UFC President Dana White initially stated. When fans and fighters began to complain that McGregor was able to keep the featherweight strap, White mysteriously explained that McGregor has a “personal” announcement to make “out of left field”<\/a> following the fight, which is why he was given this opportunity.<\/p>\n

Despite that, interim UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has expressed his dissatisfaction with the promotion, and has remained adamant that the promotion release him from his contract<\/a> so he can retire and move to another sport. If the UFC refuses to release Aldo, he has stated that he will go as far as to throw fights to complete the remaining fights on his contract.<\/a><\/p>\n

During his recent appearance on UFC Tonight, White spoke about the fact that McGregor must vacate one of the belts so as to not hold up two divisions, despite the fact that McGregor has stated that it will take an army for the UFC brass to take one of his belts away.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf he wins, he\u2019ll hold two belts,\u201d he said. \u201cThen he\u2019ll decide which one he wants to give back to me. He can\u2019t hold both. He\u2019ll have accomplished this. Then he\u2019ll have to figure out which one he wants to give up. He can\u2019t hold up two divisions.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
