After years of waiting, Gegard Mousasi finally got a fight with Vitor Belfort<\/a>. The fight served as\u00a0the co-main event of Saturday night’s UFC 20<\/a>4.<\/p>\n

Mousasi would not let the long-awaited opportunity to fight Belfort go to waste. After a dominant first round, the Dutchman sealed the deal in the second, securing full mount and unleashing a meteor shower of ground and pound for a nice, TKO win<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The win reaffirmed Mousasi’s status as one of the game’s very best middleweights. Despite this irrefutable status, however, he remains rather unappreciated among fans and pundits alike.<\/p>\n

\"Gegard<\/a><\/p>\n

At the UFC 204 post-fight press conference, Mousasi weighed in on the lack of appreciation he receives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think I\u2019m underrated throughout my whole career,\u201d Mousasi said in the wake of his defeat of Belfort. \u201cI don\u2019t know, maybe I\u2019m from Holland and people don\u2019t care. I don\u2019t know, maybe I\u2019ll throw bottles on someone\u2019s head, and people are going to start noticing me.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mousasi’s bottle-throwing comment, of course, is a reference to an infamous encounter between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz<\/a> in the build up to August’s UFC 202<\/a>. As Mousasi later elaborated, he feels he’d get more respect from the fight community if he put forth the same kind of bravado as McGregor and boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather.<\/p>\n

\u201cMcGregor is good for the sport, but uhh. But what is it?\u201d Mousasi said. \u201cYou had Muhammad Ali, who was a hero, a great boxer. He did a lot, did big things. But now you have [Floyd] Mayweather and Conor McGregor [saying] \u2018I have money! I have money!\u2019 and everybody loves it! I don\u2019t know. That sells. People are stupid. What can I say?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201c[The fans] don\u2019t know who\u2019s the real fighter or not,” Mousasi continued. “They just like to see expensive stuff on Instagram or something. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\"conor<\/a><\/p>\n

Despite his disappointment with his lack of popularity, Mousasi says he’s certain he’ll eventually earn himself the UFC middleweight title \u2013 especially now that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) is levelling the UFC playing field.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy turn will come. My turn will come,\u201d Mousasi said. \u201cEither they give me an easy fight \u2013 Uriah Hall \u2013 or tough fights<\/a>, one of those top 4 guys.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
