Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz’s names will forever be intertwined after their pair of iconic fights.<\/p>\n

When UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from his UFC 196 scrap with McGregor just two weeks before fight night, Nate Diaz stepped in on short notice to fight the Irish superstar. When the pair stepped into the Octagon, Diaz shocked the world as he rocked, and then submitted McGregor in the 2nd round of their welterweight scrap.<\/a><\/p>\n

\"Nate<\/a><\/p>\n

After the first fight, fans began calling for a rematch between the pair. After McGregor briefly retired from MMA in April, a rematch between the two was booked for UFC 202 on August 20th. When the two stepped into the Octagon the second time, it was McGregor who emerged victorious as he picked up a majority decision win over the Stockton superstar.<\/a><\/p>\n

While McGregor is currently booked for a lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205<\/a>, the MMA community has been asking for a trilogy fight between the pair.<\/p>\n

\"Conor<\/a><\/p>\n

During a recent interview with Hot 97<\/a>, UFC President Dana White spoke about the possibility of a trilogy fight:<\/p>\n

“You can’t do three. Here’s the thing, Conor McGregor is this guy where if a fight falls out, this guy will step up. He doesn’t give a (expletive). He’s legitimately that guy. I’ve been on the phone and I’ve stood in the living room many times and looked guys in the face when their opponent pulls out, nobody faces that adversity the way that Conor McGregor does.<\/p>\n

“It’s awesome and it makes me respect him very much.”<\/p>\n

“(Conor) ends up saying ‘let’s do this Nate Diaz thing’ and dude he’s two weight classes heavier than you and he doesn’t care. So we do the fight,” White explained. “Conor has to try to weigh 168 when they’re weighing in at 170. The night of the fight, Diaz comes in at 190. Now Conor McGregor is a 45, 55 pound guy and if you look at the wars he’s had with Diaz, you can only have so many of those wars in your career. It doesn’t make sense.<\/p>\n

“That’s why we have weight classes. It ended up being an amazing fight, but you don\u2019t want to keep doing that.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

White finished the interview by remaining noncommittal on booking a trilogy fight:<\/p>\n

“I don’t know. 1-1’s good, they shouldn’t have fought in the first place,” White said. “We’ll see what happens.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
