The next move for Conor McGregor once again erupted the world of MMA in absolute excitement on Monday.<\/p>\n

MMA insider @TalkMMA<\/a> was the first to report that Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez were official<\/a> for UFC 205 in New York, which is set to take place on November 13 at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n

“The Notorious” will get a chance to become just the third fighter in UFC history to win UFC championship titles in different weight classes behind Hall of Fame legends Randy Couture<\/a> and our very own BJ Penn<\/a>. One thing that separates McGregor from Couture and Penn is with winning the title from Alvarez, the brash Irishman will be the first fighter in UFC history to hold the two separate weight class belts at the same time.<\/p>\n

“This is the fight the fans wanted, and I’m excited that our very first event at Madison Square Garden will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez defending the lightweight title against Conor McGregor,” <\/em>White told ESPN<\/a>. “This card has three world title fights and is the best card in UFC history.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Prior to the bout being announced, the newly crowned lightweight champ spoke with Ariel Helwani of<\/a> MMA Fighting<\/a> and said that he will spoil a lot of people’s perception of the world of mixed martial arts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like if this fight is signed and it happens, I feel like I\u2019m about to tell the whole world that there\u2019s no Santa Claus,\u201d<\/em> Alvarez said. \u201cAnd everybody is gonna be disappointed. There\u2019s no Santa Claus. He don\u2019t exist. It was a lie and I\u2019m gonna steal the magic from everyone. The magic is gone. And I can\u2019t wait. It\u2019s gonna be a great time for me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Alvarez is coming off the biggest win of his career, with a TKO over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC Fight Night 90 in July to become the UFC lightweight champion of the world. With a win over McGregor at UFC 205, the product of Philadelphia will surely establish himself as a UFC superstar.<\/p>\n

After winning the title from dos Anjos, Alvarez called for an “easier fight”<\/a> and mentioned McGregor as one of the possibilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now there\u2019s a new champion, he\u2019s a bum as well,\u201d<\/em> McGregor told<\/a> MMA Fighting<\/a> regarding Alvarez. \u201cHe\u2019s a novice. He\u2019s a novice on his feet, swinging shots, overhands. He just is a wrestler with an overhand as well. They\u2019re novices where I come from and that\u2019s the truth of it, so we\u2019ll see about him. We\u2019ll see.”<\/em><\/p>\n

McGregor is coming off a majority decision win over Nate Diaz in a non-title welterweight bout at UFC 202. “The Notorious” was able to edge out Diaz and avenge his first and only loss in the UFC. McGregor’s lightweight title fight against Alvarez will be his first bout in the UFC 155-pound division.<\/p>\n
