But after Johnson knocked Poirier out a minute and a half into the first round, Brooks took notice of how Johnson handled himself following the win.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks spoke about Michael Johnson&#8217;s post-fight antics on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/mma-hour\" target=\"_blank\">Monday&#8217;s edition of &#8216;The MMA Hour&#8217;<\/a> and revealed a desire to fight Johnson after his controversial celebration over a knocked out Dustin Poirier:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI was definitely fired up (after teammate Dustin Poirier losing). The reason I was so fired up is this is the fight business, sometimes you win sometime you lose, Michael Johnson won, and good for him. But after the fight, standing over Dustin, cussing at him. That guy you just beat went to the gym everyday to prepare for you.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;He\u2019s been on my radar. I want Michael Johnson and I\u2019ll make it clear to anyone.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Will-Brooks.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"730\" height=\"380\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-142143\" src=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Will-Brooks.png\" alt=\"Will Brooks\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Will-Brooks.png 730w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Will-Brooks-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Will-Brooks-585x305.png 585w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Will-Brooks-390x203.png 390w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The former Bellator lightweight champion, <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/bellator\/bellator-lightweight-champion-will-brooks-signs-with-the-ufc\/\">who defected to the UFC this year<\/a>, holds a near-perfect 19-1 record and won his <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc-results\/tuf-23-finale-results\/tuf-23-finale-results-ross-pearson-vs-will-brooks\/\">octagon debut against Ross Pearson in July<\/a><em>. <\/em>But for Will Brooks, the more he fights the better, as he discussed the toll it takes on his finances when fights are few and far between, especially now as a father:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI\u2019m recognizing the landscape of the\u00a0lightweight division; there&#8217;s no path or way to the title. Rankings don\u2019t matter, guys are just kinda picking fights. Cerrone doesn\u2019t know if hes a\u00a0welterweight or a lightweight. Tony Ferguson doesn\u2019t know if he wants to fight for the title or not.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;While they&#8217;re trying to figure out who\u2019s the\u00a0number one\u00a0contender, I\u2019ll just keep making money,&#8221; <\/em>Brooks said.<\/p>\n<p><em>I had a quick turnaround, I was out for a half year almost year without a paycheck. I got way behind in my bills, got into a little debt.
