Frustration and emotion caused an odd incident to occur at UFC Fight Night 95 in Brazil over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Following the heavyweight bout between Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva, Nelson kicked referee “Big” John McCarthy<\/a> after what Nelson explained what he thought was a late stoppage<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Nelson was outraged by how long it took McCarthy to call an end to the bout and feels he delivered more damage than necessary to his opponent, who is also a close friend.<\/p>\n

\"UFC<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want to hurt \u2018Bigfoot\u2019 more than I had to,”<\/em> Nelson said<\/a>. “And I got taken by the moment, because it\u2019s like I\u2019m beating the sh*t out of somebody and you\u2019re like, dude, enough is enough. And for me, it hurt my feelings. And I apologize to Big John, but I wouldn\u2019t take it back. It just hurt me, that I\u2019ve got to keep on hitting a guy that doesn\u2019t need to be hit.\u201d

\nDespite Nelson’s reasoning for hitting McCarthy, Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) spokesperson Cristiano Sampaio stated in an email to MMA Junkie<\/a> that Nelson’s incident will be addressed by Brazil’s Superior Justice Court of Sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though CABMMA understands Roy Nelson\u2019s \u2018frustration\u2019 in that situation due to his close relationship with his opponent, that does not justify his act and can open a serious and dangerous precedent in the sport,\u201d<\/em> Sampaio in the email to MMAjunkie. \u201cWe, as the regulation body of MMA in Brazil and member of the Association of Boxing Commissions, will not tolerate such conduct.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the licensed professionals involved have to act accordingly, respecting the rules, commission, promoter and fans, where unsportsmanlike behavior will be subject to fines and suspensions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Sampaio stated that a few members of the Superior Justice Court witnessed the incident and will be handling Nelson’s case directly. \u201cCABMMA does not have to file a legal complaint; it\u2019s (the court\u2019s) duty to start an immediate investigation,\u201d<\/em> Sampaio added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
