Nate Diaz may be 1-1 with Conor McGregor, but it’s safe to say he took some serious punishment in both fights. During their UFC 202 headlining bout alone, McGregor planted Diaz on his back three separate times with his infamous left hook. However, Diaz says it was all apart of his plan to get Conor to the ground and grapple with him.<\/p>\n

Brendan Schaub discussed meeting Diaz at a supermarket shortly after UFC 202 on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast<\/a>, and Schaub claims Diaz told him he hit the deck on purpose because he knew he couldn’t take McGregor down:<\/p>\n

“I saw Nate at the grocery store randomly, he said he was falling on purpose to dupe Conor. He says \u2018I know the first three rounds, he\u2019s so fast and he will be tough, so when he hit me, the plan was to fall down to get him to follow me down.\u2019 He says \u2018I couldn\u2019t take him down, so the plan was to get me follow me down there.\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a risky game plan, but that\u2019s straight from the horse\u2019s mouth,\u201d <\/em>Schaub said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that one of those \u2018I meant to do that\u2019 things?\u201d <\/em>Rogan replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t know Nate Diaz enough to be like \u2018are you serious?'”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Diaz found success on ground with ‘The Notorious’ in their first fight at UFC 196, where he locked in a rear-naked choke in the second round after McGregor appeared to be gassing out and rocked following a one-two combination from Diaz.<\/p>\n

Although Diaz didn’t appear to be in too much danger following the three knockdowns, McGregor did appear to catch him with clean shots when he put Nate down.<\/p>\n
