Prior to Carlos Condit’s UFC 195 welterweight title fight with Robbie Lawler<\/a>, the ‘Natural Born Killer’ revealed that the fight very well could be his last before retiring. <\/p>\n

After losing a controversial split decision<\/a>, Condit stated that unless he got an immediate rematch with Lawler, he was on hiatus until further notice. The UFC opted to book Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley for UFC 201<\/a>, which prompted Condit to take a fight with Demian Maia.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the fight with Maia on August 27th, Condit spoke on Toe-2-Toe with Brian Stann<\/a> to discuss his hops for another title shot:<\/p>\n

“I think that a win in spectacular fashion over Demian Maia gets me the title shot. I don’t see why it wouldn’t. Arguably Demian Maia could be the No. 1 contender. The reason he’s not is because of his fighting style, not the most exciting dude but he’s beat the who’s who in the division. So I think that a win over him without a doubt gets me back to a shot and an opportunity to get the belt around my waist.”<\/p>\n

“He’s a tough fight. If there was any other way to get to No. 1 contender, I admit I’d probably want to take it too. He’s a tough style match-up for me. But I’ve never backed down from a challenge. It’s exciting to me to try to solve the puzzle that is Demian Maia with the tools that I have.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is important to mention that Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson was also promised a title shot after his unanimous decision win over Rory MacDonald<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n
