While fighters throw in their two cents on the situation, Jose Aldo has already made his decision; He will be defending his UFC Featherweight Championship at UFC 189. While Aldo likely doesn’t want to miss out on the biggest payday of his career, UFC on air personality and former title contender Kenny Florian believes the risk is greater than the reward.<\/p>\n

“Here’s the problem of why this fight may not come together is also the fear,” Florian explained on his podcast<\/a> with Jon Anik. “You know as a fighter, yeah, we go into fights having bumps and bruises and injuries and different things like that. But the fact that Conor McGregor knows exactly what the injury is, where it is, and all the other issues makes it very difficult for a fighter like Jose Aldo, with so much on the line, to go in there and take that risk.”<\/p>\n

The risk? Fighting with a bruised and possibly fractured rib. Aldo suffered a rib injury while preparing for his fight with Conor McGregor and for a couple days, the fait of the UFC 189 main event was up in the air. It was announced that while Aldo still plans to fight, Chad Mendes will be sitting on the sidelines in case Aldo cannot fight.<\/p>\n
