American Kickboxing Academy has been under some scrutiny as of late with the recent injury of Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC President Dana White blamed them of training as if they were in the “stone age” and asked them to update their training routine.<\/p>\n

Daniel Cormier enjoys training like a cave-man and says AKA won’t change a thing.<\/p>\n

While on Chael Sonnen’s podcast “You’re Welcome<\/a>“, Cormier explained that there’s a reason why the fighters from his camp are praised after they walk out of the octagon. “Guys get praised for what they do when they come out of this gym,” Cormier told Sonnen. “Only good things are said about Luke Rockhold right now. When [UFC heavyweight champion] Cain Velasquez fights, only good things. Myself, all of our guys, not even just the top guys.”<\/p>\n

Cormier admits that they constantly change the way they train, but not at the request of Dana White. “We have changed our training a little bit. Like, over the course of the week we’ll go lighter,” Cormier explained. “Cain and I tomorrow, we’ll spar five rounds. We’ll spar five rounds, light. Yesterday, Cain and I fought. We didn’t spar yesterday, we fought. We fought for five rounds and today I’m feeling it. He says he’s feeling it, but it’s why we will be prepared whenever the Octagon door closes.”<\/p>\n
