Mixed martials arts was built on the foundation that one gives honor and respect to their opponents, both before and after competition.<\/p>\n

While some mixed martial artists still show nothing but\u00a0class and respect\u00a0to their opponoents, others in today’s MMA\u00a0scene have made a career from being\u00a0good at\u00a0trash-talking.<\/p>\n

Take former 3-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen for example. The former UFC star basically built his popularity through his ability to talk trash.<\/p>\n

With that said, the\u00a0two title challengers competing at this weekend’s UFC 175 event in Las Vegas are the opposite of the aformentioned “American Gangstar.”<\/p>\n

Alexis Davis, who challenges Ronda Rousey for the UFC’s women’s bantamweight championship on July 5, believes that she probably would have received a title shot sooner had she been good a talking trash:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am kind of quiet and I don\u2019t really speak up unless it\u2019s time to speak up,\u201d <\/em>Davis toldMMAjunkie<\/a>. \u201cI think if I would\u2019ve been a little more vocal earlier in my career, I would\u2019ve gotten my chances a little bit sooner.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/em>The Canadian title challenger has a very good excuse for not using Trash Talk… She’s not good at it:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s because if I try, I kind of sound like an idiot, and it\u2019s just not who I am,\u201d <\/em>Davis says. \u201cWhat am I going to say?\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Davis went on to say that she can appreciate a good trash-talker:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s great,\u201d <\/em>she says. \u201cEverybody\u2019s different. It\u2019s different personalities, and I love listening to guys like Chael. It\u2019s entertaining.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

<\/em>Meanwhile, former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida, who competes against Chris Weidman in the headlining bout\u00a0of this weekend’s UFC 175 event against Chris Weidman, is also taking the “old school” approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cI try to show exactly what I am,\u201d <\/em>Machida stated. \u201cI\u2019m always trying to sell the fight in a different way. I\u2019m trying to sell the fight with the way I\u2019m fighting in the octagon. I don\u2019t want to be the guy offending my opponent before the fight.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

UFC 175 takes place this Saturday night live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The main card airs live on pay-per-view following the prelims on FOX Sports 1.<\/p>\n
