‘The Neo-Samurai’ Genki Sudo remains arguably one of the most unique and unorthodox fighters to ever grace the sport of mixed martial arts. With a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to match his unparalleled striking game, Sudo was a tough puzzle for many of his opponents to crack.

Following his split decision loss to Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig at UFC 42, Sudo returned to Japan, where he fought under the K-1 banner in 2003. Just eight months following his split decision loss to Ludwig, Sudo returned to the ring in a ‘David vs. Goliath’ style matchup against Eric Esch, also known as ‘Butterbean’. Esch, who competed as a professional boxer, racked up a 77-10-4 record throughout the course of his professional career. With that being said, he was unable to replicate the same success in MMA, as he ultimately went 17-10.

In just his first professional MMA fight, the 425 pound Esch found himself standing opposite a man who weighed nearly 300 pounds less than himself, Genki Sudo.
