UFC’s Assuncao Eyes December-January Return Following Surgery

UFC bantamweight Raphael Assuncao is still out of action following his recent fibula surgery.

Assuncao has been out of the octagon since his win over Bryan Caraway back in October 2014. Since then he’s been dealing with an ongoing issue with his ankle and leg. After going threw it for a while he realized that he would actually need to have surgery.

The surgery took place two weeks ago and he’s already confident that the issue has been fixed and he’s on the road to recovery and towards his return to the competition.

Here’s what he told Portal do Vale Tudo about his impending return to action.

“I’m very optimistic. I will sit out in September and maybe I can train again in October. I still have the stitches, but I will remove them next week. I want to fight in December, January, tops. I’m not one of those guys who get unmotivated, fat and don’t eat well. On the contrary, I have been keeping an appropriate diet and once I’m cleared, I will start my camp. In one week I’ll be back in shape.”

Assuncao is considered to be one of the top bantamweights and is likely to be in title talks when he’s ready to come back. Who do you think he should face first?
