The bout was scrappy, but surprisingly even while standing. Both Faber and Caceres would get their share of shots in before the fight hit the ground where Faber began to shine. Even though he defended more than half of Faber’s takedown attempts, it seemed as if Caceres had no answer for Faber’s ground game. Caceres was taken down five times in the first two rounds and it likely gave Faber the nod in the eyes of the judges.
Caceres showed rays of brilliance on his feet and caught Faber off guard multiple times. He landed a stiff uppercut in the second round, but Faber was not wobbled once. Caceres would have to work hard in the third round if he wanted a decision victory.
Caceres’ body kick was caught and Faber forced him to the ground. Faber quickly transitioned to Caceres’ back where he locked on a tight rear naked choke. Faber’s back was up against the cage fence so he had little room to wrench the choke with, but Team Alpha Male knows how to finish chokes. Caceres submitted seconds after the hold was applied.
