After being diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve late last August, most people thought that 26-year old UFC heavyweight Stefan Struve (25-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) would never fight again.

However, according to a report from USA Today Sports, the Dutchman recently received the green light from doctors and can now return to competing in mixed martial arts.

According to the “Skyscraper,” all that is left is for the UFC to finalize his paperwork and he could be back fighting in 2-3 months time:

“I’m just working on the last details with the UFC right now for my clearance. They’ve got everything: my doctor’s letter, medical files and everything. Everything is there, and we’re just waiting on the UFC to do their thing. I want to fight. I’m ready to go into a training camp. I can be ready in two or three months. I left a year behind me that was the most difficult year of my life, but now I’m here. I’m back, and I want to fight. I want to show that I’m one of the best heavyweights in the world. I really feel like I’ve got another shot at all of this and I’m better than I’ve ever been.”

Struve was last seen in action in March of 2013, when he had his 4-fight winning streak snapped by Mark Hunt, who KO’d the 7-footer and left him with a broken jaw.

Stefan Struve holds notable wins over Pat Barry, Stipe Miocic, Lavar Johnson and Dave Herman while fighting under the Zuffa banner.
