The rumors of Gina Carano fighting for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship have officially been put on the back-burner. Dana White tweeted on Friday night that Ronda Rousey will be defending her title against Alexis Davis at UFC 175. The event will take place on July 5th, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ronda Rousey last defended her championship against Sara McMann at UFC 170. Many believed McMann would be the champion’s toughest opponent to date, but a knee to the body of the challenger hushed those thoughts quickly. After that bout, Rousey proved to the world that she was not a one-trick-pony when it comes to finishing fights… she just PREFERS to rip arms out of sockets.
Undefeated in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Alexis Davis currently sits at #2 in the women’s bantamweight rankings (just under Cat Zingano). Davis is riding a three-fight winning streak which consists of decision victories over Rosi Sexton, Liz Carmouche and Jessica Eye. Davis has only lost five times in her career as a professional mixed martial artist, but she has never been submitted.
Will Ronda Rousey be the first to submit Alexis Davis or will we see a new champion?
