Report: Anderson Silva apparently out of the hospital

According to a report from MMAFighting.com, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva was expected to be released from hospital on Sunday evening, this after undergoing a successful surgery, to repair a broken bone in his left leg.

The horrific injury took place early in the second round of “The Spider’s” UFC 168 main event rematch against rating middleweight champion, Chris Weidman.

The “All American” checked a leg-kick thrown by Silva, something he had failed  to do in their initial meeting, causing Silva’s shin to snap and almost wrap itself around Weidman’s leg in the process. (See photo’s here.)

According to one of Silva’s managers, Jorge Guimaraes, Anderson was transferred to a Las Vegas hotel Sunday evening where he is expected to stay “a day or two.” The former UFC champion will then return to his home in Los Angeles, as he told Ariel Helwani:

“He’s fine,” Guimaraes said when asked how Silva was doing. “Just sad and in pain.”

The UFC also later confirmed via a press release, that Silva underwent successful surgery after the fight:

“The successful surgery, performed by Dr. Steven Sanders, the UFC’s orthopedic surgeon, inserted an intramedullary rod into Anderson’s left tibia,” the statement read. “The broken fibula was stabilized and does not require a separate surgery.”

Guimaraes also stated that it was too early to speculate what this injury means for Silva’s fighting future.

Anderson Silva tweeted the following message to his fans on Sunday morning:

“Brasil, I’m sorry, I didn’t want to let you down. I gave my best, I swear.”
